Hey folks, it’s been a while since our last update, so here’s a bit of a catch-up:
NODA Awards
On 22nd June 2025 TADS attended it’s first NODA East Midlands AGM and Award Ceremony since becoming NODA members.
One of the benefits of becoming NODA members is that we have a district representative come and review our shows, and if they see something that they feel is worthy of it, will put forward people or productions to receive NODA awards.
As such, we were hugely honoured to be attending in the capacity of NODA award nominees, with two of our group members being nominated for awards.
Simon Smart was nominated for Regional Poster of the Year Award for The Ghost Train poster, and Sarah Smart (nee Jones) was nominated for an Outstanding Individual Performance Award for the role of Julia Price in Ghost Train.
After the AGM, lunch, and bagging a good number of the cakes being handed out, we headed in for the award ceremony.
Simon’s category came up first and we were absolutely thrilled that he won the Regional Poster of the Year award. He received a certificate and a trophy and praise from one of the judges who called the poster ‘exceptional.’
Sarah was not successful in duplicating this win in her own category, but remains honoured to have been nominated for a relatively small part against some stiff competition.
However, the biggest surprise and society honour of the day came in the Special Rep’s Award category, which we did not know about before the day.
Yvette Bougourd, our rep, spoke about how impressed she was with the professionalism within TADS, particularly when it comes to welcoming her into the society, the design and creation of our sets, and our tribute to late member Prue Goss in the programme and on the set of our Autumn production of Towards Zero.
Yvette said: TADS work so hard on all aspects of their productions and it shines through. When I’m reviewing other groups, they tend to hire sets in, it’s refreshing to see personalised sets and hear about the creative process behind them, something which you also include in your programmes.
It’s a shame I didn’t get to see Prue in action but it’s lovely that her legacy lives on!
A massive congratulations to everyone in TADS and a special congratulations to Simon for his award.
Autumn Production
TADS have chosen another great comedy for our Autumn Production. Rehearsals are well underway and tickets are on sale for Escape! By Sharon Rutland. A group of colleagues have been sent to a local escape room for a team building exercise. Little do they know that amidst the interpersonal tensions and rumours of redundancy, not all is as it seems, and mischief is afoot!
Help Wanted!
Do you have a flair for the dramatic? Love being on stage, working behind the scenes, or just want to meet new people and have a laugh? Our friendly society is looking for new members of all experience levels!
Whether you’re a seasoned performer, a backstage whizz, or a total beginner, there’s a place for you with us.
Whilst we will always welcome new actors & actresses with open arms, we would like to emphasise our need for help in all areas.
People may often view amateur dramatics as a bunch of (mostly) talented actors giving up their time to entertain, but there’s so much that goes on to bring a play to the stage. At TADS we typically have a small number of people filling many roles, and we really need more people who would like to be involved with what we do (but don’t necessarily want to be up on stage!)
We’re particularly on the lookout for:
- Front of House Helpers & Coordinators
- Marketing / Promotion Helpers
- Set construction / Decoration
- Directors & Producers
