Auditions

Auditions for this year’s autumn play, ‘A Chorus of Disapproval’, will be held on Friday June 13th, 7.30 pm at the Thrapston Plaza.

The play is set around rehearsals for an amateur production of John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, the plot of which is interwoven with and reflects the action of the play. The cast will be 7 male and 6 female main characters, with extras for some scenes.

We are also still looking for backstage help, particularly for this play as the number of scenes and associated changes will be a challenge!

Dead Guilty

Thrapston Amateur Dramatic Society (TADS) will present ‘Dead Guilty’, a thriller by Richard Harris. Directed by David Midlane at the Thrapston Plaza, from Wednesday 9th – Saturday 12th April 2014 at 7.45pm (doors open at 7.15pm).

When John Haddrell dies of a heart attack at the wheel of his car, the woman at his side is not his wife Margaret but his lover, Julia. Recovering from the injuries she sustained in the ensuing crash, Julia is visited by Margaret, who apparently knows nothing of the affair. Events take a sinister turn when Margaret begins to encroach on Julia’s life, engineering Julia’s dismissal of her home help, Gary, and her estrangement from her counsellor, Anne. Left alone in the house together, Julia and Margaret are locked in deadly combat.

Set build Bonanza!

On Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd of March TADS will be holding a set build “bonanza”. Our aim is to try and get the set for the April production built in two days, leaving the painting and dressing for the following weeks.

We’d like to take this opportunity to invite anyone along who may be interested in the backstage side of Amateur Dramatics, regardless of experience. If you’d like to see what we get up to “behind the curtain”, whether it be set construction, dressing, electrical or props, why not pop in for a chat and maybe a cuppa (quality varies on this I’m afraid) – we’d love to see you!

Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd March 9.00am to 5.00 pm at the Plaza, Thrapston.

Write About What You Know

Thrapston Amateur Dramatic Society (TADS) will present ‘Write About What You Know’, a lively comedy by Paul Gisby. Directed by Miranda Case at the Thrapston Plaza, from Wednesday 20th – Saturday 23rd November 2013 at 7.45pm (doors open at 7.15pm).

Write About What You Know tells the tale of a group of amateur writers who meet every month in their local scout hut to discuss their work, exchange tips and seek mutual encouragement. But closer examination of the disparate group of writers reveals a whirlwind of love affairs, petty jealousy, rivalry and literary one-upmanship. This is punctuated with readings of often excruciatingly funny amateur penmanship, with everybody encouraged to draw on their own very different experiences to write about what they know.
